Postural disorders
The way you sit, work and move shapes your spine over the years. Postural disorders are deviations from the normal curvature — and, when they cause pain, they can be treated.
The spine has natural curves that balance the body. When these curves become exaggerated or flatten out, we call them postural disorders — such as hyperkyphosis (a more “hunched” back), hyperlordosis (a more arched lower back) or flattening (loss of the curve).
Not every postural disorder causes pain. But when combined with overload and muscle weakness, it can turn into chronic pain and fatigue.
The focus is specialized physical therapy, strengthening of the supporting muscles and re-education of everyday movement. Most cases improve without surgery.
Postural disorders that progress, cause significant pain or stem from a structural deviation (such as scoliosis) call for a careful evaluation to define the best approach.
