Endoscopic spine surgery
When spine surgery is truly necessary, the endoscopic technique makes it possible to treat through an incision of just a few millimeters, with less pain and a faster recovery.
In endoscopic surgery, the procedure is performed with the help of a video camera and fine instruments, through a very small incision. The surgeon treats exactly the spot that is compressing the nerve, preserving the surrounding structures.
It is very different from traditional open surgery, which requires a larger incision and more handling of the tissues.
Most spine problems improve without an operation. Endoscopy comes in when there is a clear indication — and, when that is the path, being minimally invasive makes a difference in safety and comfort.
Because it is less aggressive, many patients are able to stand up and walk shortly afterwards. Rehabilitation with physical therapy consolidates the result.
